How We Love: Wholly. Fully. Fiercely. Completely. Hysterically.
Yesterday I wrote a new post. I wrote about how Andy and I have been married for 5 years. And how we had been told a slew of negative thing like: YOU WILL NOT MAKE IT. Essentially, It became very much a "Spit in Your Face, Ha Ha, We Did It." post. It most certainly was not my intention. And most definitely not my heart to perceive it as such. But that is what it became. And subsequently why it was deleted.
Don't get me wrong. I am still rejoicing. Andy and I have been married FIVE years today. It is a really big deal to me. Because we were told negative things and interesting statistics that said we wouldn't make it. And here is the truth:
They were right. We would not have made it this far.
Except there was one major flaw in all the "advice" and statistics that some people missed. They weren't including Jesus.
From the beginning of our marriage we decided that we would not be defined by statistics. We serve God who is much bigger than the numbers. We would find our identity in Him. He would be the center of our marriage.
We have been set by Christ a model of selflessness. It is the opposite of what our culture has taught us. If we were to be selfish in our marriage it most certainly would not be working. But because we go forth with that model we have learned to:
Love each other wholly. Serve each other fully. Fight for the other fiercely. Forgive each other completely. Laugh together hysterically.
We have learned many things during this journey, albeit short. But we look forward to all the new things we can learn from each other and others to continuously better our marriage. And maybe in 65 years, when we celebrate our 70th anniversary in 2078, we can tell you all the new things we've learned then.
Thank you to everyone who has continually prayed for us and over our marriage. We ask that you continue to do so. Those prayers are of the utmost importance to us.
Much Love,
Mr. & Mrs. Holm
